Happy 65 Years

On Saturday, some of the family and a few friends gathered to celebrate with my parents the coming occasion of their 65th anniversary!

Today is actually their date, but weekends work better for get-togethers, plus several of us had commitments that precluded actually gathering ON the day. 

But we had a wonderful time!  The immediate family that couldn’t be there, and much of the extended family and friends sent greetings, and one of my sisters was able to make a Skype call.  PM Stephen Harper sent his greetings as well, thanks to the efforts of my sister (there will be more coming, but time was short and this was the only one to arrive on time).

We read aloud all the cards and greetings that were received, and then read a letter my mother had written to my father – such love, and so many memories!

So today, special greetings and congratulations to my parents, Margaret and Frank, on this day that is uniquely theirs to celebrate!

And their plans for today???  They’re going to the PNE, where they would have gone back in the days when they were courting.  And then they have a small bottle of champagne to toast each other!

Heading for home….

After 10 days with our kids and little LV, we’re actually going through a little bit of withdrawal.  We’d become accustomed to the idea of our children having grown up and moved on with their lives, but now with a new baby and another one coming, we want nothing more than to hold them all close and not let go.

But there was lots of time holding, feeding, playing with LV:

And I went with DDIL-K for her US – a real-time glimpse of Eli, but still no idea whether it’s a he or a she.  Only 10 weeks to wait until we know.

There was also a baby shower for DDIL-K, lots of fun and amazingly coordinated gifts received:

Grizz did some work on the baby room closet, and we helped put together a new filing cabinet so ‘stuff’ could be moved out of the baby room so that ‘baby stuff’ can be moved in and set up.

We did take time for some touring around and visited The Saskatoon Farm, which is so much more than just a saskatoon farm.  They have a gift store, bakery, art gallery, farmer’s market, restaurant, plant nursery, as well as u-pick berries and fruits in season.  And the best saskatoon berry pies ever!

And the view over the Old Man and Bow Rivers is spectacular:

Before leaving, we booked our next stay in about a month.

Sisters Quilt Show part VI

The morning just kept bringing more and more fabulous quilt inspiration!

 

Do you see the little red shoes print that makes the sashing in this Wizard of Oz quilt?

 

Each flower and leaf is colored with crayon, then embroidered to give depth:

 

The back of this quilt is as beautifully pieced as the front:

 

Hearts, or tulips?  I thought hearts when I first spotted this quilt, but then looking at the photo later, I thought tulips.

 

Bargello is still a quilt style on my bucket list:

 

I do always wonder how quilters find just the right colors and tones:
